We became an Enviroschool in 2021, realising that ongoing care of our land and our people was a shared ideal of our community, our kura and the Enviroschools kaupapa. It also connects really beautifully with our vision to be Kaitiaki for our Community. We are proud to say that in March 2024 we met the criteria to become a Bronze Enviroschool!!
We love that through Enviroschools our students are empowered to come up with, lead and maintain projects to better our school and help create a sustainable future.
We have a beautiful vision map for the future of our school, designed by a now ex-student, but which is a collaboration of student, staff and whānau ideas about what our school could be.
Our Green Team has developed from one group of 10 students taking leadership in our kura, to 11 Enviro Rōpū, with each of our students belonging to a group, and leading the decision making around projects and next steps. These are groups like: Pest Control, Hei Hei (chickens), Wai Ora (healthy water), Zero Waste, Mara Kai (vege gardens) and so on.
The slideshow below shows the projects and the scale of involvement at our school over the past few years as we have grown into our bronze enviroschool status...
